In 2008 Mark was invited to attend an activity afternoon at the York Road Nursery School in Hitchin and say hello to the staff and pupils . He took his Mum too and they saw first hand what an amazing school was opening its doors to a link with the charity. The Head Teacher, Helen Griffiths , and her deputy, Sarah Bonner, had a board made up of photographs and information of the Roots Nursery school charity along with a parking meter in the school entrance to collect donations from parents when they collected their children from school. This ideas was not only very novel and imaginative but very successful.Your Road display (3)

Not long after this in July 2008 a sponsored pedal was arranged in which the pupils did 10 laps of the new playground. A big distance for such small children and yet completed ans supported very generously. This event alone raised £1708 towards school projects and was reported in The Comet.

In July 2011 York Road Nursery School also played host to the visiting Headmaster and Assistant from the Roots Nursery School in Juffureh. They attended school for a whole day and sat in with their counterpart teachers to find out first hand just how school life is in the UK. This was a great opportunity for all concerned as the york Road Nursery School team and pupils could finally meet the people they had heard so much about and had fundraised for whilst at the same time the Gambian teachers could also say a personal thank you for the assistance of the York Road Nursery School team
